Taiga Conservation

Human Impacts on Taiga:

Positive- There are many positive human impacts everywhere in the world. For instance, the Canadian governmentaiga_forest.jpgt established protection for 13,000 square kilometers. This was acheived by creating a new 10,700 square kilometer park reserve in the Mealy Mountains area and a 3,000 square kilometer waterway provincial park that follows the Eagle River.

Negative- Humans have created some negative effects all around the world. For example, on April 26, 1986 in Chernobyl, Ukraine a nuclear accident occurred. The results were catastrophic. People who lived 680 miles away were found to have radioactive particles on their clothing. Over 4,000 people were reported to be dead and hundreds more were found to have cancer. Thankfully donations were made and organizations helped to get rid of most of the radiation. chernobyl.jpg

Problems that Need to be Addressed by Humans:

1.) Global Warming is an issue all over the world, but it is affecting the taiga as well. The continuing rise in temperatures will have a severe impact on the boreal forest eco-system. As the temperatures grow, it will snow less and less in the taiga, until the taiga is not taiga any longer. One of the many solutions to this problem is to stop polluting.

2.) Deforestation is one of the biggest issues in the entire world, especially in the taiga. In Siberia there is more than 2 million square miles of forests. Humans have started to log and cut down trees in these forests. These acts have been opposed by many organizations such as the Pacific Energy and Resource Center. They have started to plant trees in place of the trees that have been cut down. There is a chance that if companies start to log at a slower pace we may be able to get our trees back within ten years
